Throughout the year, more than 400 volunteers —both local and from out of town— support the Western Folklife Center’s activities in our mission to document and preserve the cultural traditions of the American West.

Volunteering with us is a great way to contribute directly to these goals, as well as meet wonderful people, support rural culture, and become part of a community.

During the year, we rely on volunteers for many things, including but not limited to helping at special events, distributing posters/flyers, assisting in the office, acting as exhibit tour guides, and putting together exhibits.

And whether you’re from Elko or from out of town, you can lend a hand at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. Volunteers assist with everything from taking tickets to creating stages to helping guests and artists. Over 300 volunteers keep this operation going, so it’s a great way to meet your fellow Gathering-goers. Opportunities are available throughout the week of the Gathering (and earlier!). Get involved! Get matched up with a volunteer opportunity by registering at westernfolklife.org/volunteer. Our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you with more information starting in October.
