Throughout the year, more than 400 volunteers —both local and from out of town— support the Western Folklife Center’s activities in our mission to document and preserve the cultural traditions of the American West.

Volunteering with us is a great way to contribute directly to these goals, as well as meet wonderful people, support rural culture, and become part of a community.

During the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, our volunteers help visitors, take tickets, tend bar, drive shuttles, work in the gift shop, and much more. As thanks, each volunteer receives a Deluxe Pass pin allowing free entry to all non-ticketed daytime sessions and the program book. Volunteers assist us with preparing for the Gathering, as well as during the event.

At other times of the year, we rely on volunteers for many things, including but not limited to helping at special events, distributing posters/flyers, assisting in the office, acting as exhibit tour guides, and putting together exhibits.
