Black Rock Blues

I took this photograph directly south of our ranch, looking across the northeast arm of the Black Rock Desert to Pinto Mountain and the Black Rock Range. This area is now a part of the "Wilderness Study Area".

Stone Baby

When I am hiking and waiting for the right light, it's always a treat to come upon something in nature that feels just perfect. Stone Baby was one of those times.

Eileen Northrup Smart

eileen standing.jpg
Several years ago I photographed most of the Elders of the Fort McDermitt Tribe. Eileen was born in 1910, a Pitt River/Paiute Indian. She is a very proud Elder, and rightly so. She made this dress, as well as many others. She lives in a comfortable home at the reservation with loving family. The photographs are on display in the Humboldt County Library in Winnemucca.
