Wild Vine Flower

Sometimes the smallest weed is beautiful in the fall. When this ditchbank no longer held summer irrigation water, I walked through it and found many weeds to photograph.

Perfection

I suppose our fall colors do not rival the splendid scenes of the Eastern states, but when you come upon one lone, perfect aspen tree by a mountain creek, it can take your breath away.

dendary and sheep

We have many good friends that immigrated from the Basque country as sheepherders and now have other professions. They enjoy helping out at the ranch with shearing, marking, separating lambs, etc. And we enjoy having them. Frank Dendary first came to Elko county in the early '40s to work with the sheep. He then became a professional blacksmith in Winnemucca. This is Frank helping separate the lambs from the ewes. The lambs will come to the home ranch to the alfalfa fields, and the ewes will return to the mountains until late fall.

Herding Through The Ranch

I seldom make black and white photographs, because I always see color with all it's shades. This shot I liked though because it kept everything simple and clean. And because sometime I like the backs of people and animals when they make a statement.
