Soft Early Morning Red Hills

soft early morning hills on pine forest.jpg
This seemingly simple photograph has a lot going for it, as far as I'm concerned. It shows the beauty of simplicity - it shows the landscape I am familiar with - it shows all the plays of light in the high desert. Whenever I am in this area making pictures I wonder if the artist, Maynard Dixon, saw the same view. He would often travel to the Alder Creek Ranch near these red hills and paint. This photograph was taken in the Pine Forest Mountains looking toward the Sheldon Antelope Refuge.
