BEGINNING OF LIFE

It dawns upon me,
first light streaming into
shadows cascading away
into pools of heat or rain –
everyday, no two the same.

He awoke me, drug
my eyes to see another
place to put my poetry.
I understand my father now
that he is gone and I am old.
