Awoke this morning to two-tenths of an inch in the gauge. Though more than the five-hundredths I went to bed with, still not enough to start the grass. With low clouds cloaking the foothills most of the day, I harbored a hope for an afternoon thundershower.
No such luck!

Next chance next Wednesday – 20% according to the professional prognosticators.

John,
Enjoy reading your blog every now and then. Here's a little poem to go along with your praying for rain.

When is summer over?
By Tom Nichols

Some folks know summer’s over
When their kids head back to school.
Others know it, when football starts
Or the “Y” closes the pool.

Many watch the calendar
And count the days.
Still others know it,
By the lunar phase.

Me -about State Fair time,
I start hoping for a shower.
Not a gully washer. Just a drizzle
That goes on and on -by the hour.

A slow rain that soaks in,
With no runoff at all
Sprouting grass and clover,
A sheepherder’s first signs of fall.
