SHYPOKE

Green Heron (immature)
Raised on a ranch
In the Tules
Among the Redwings
That strafe its Great
Blue cousins
On long stalks
From tadpoles
To bird eggs,
Just out of the nest
Shypoke waits
On a dragonfly.

Just wondering...when I was a farm girl in southwestern Minnesota, there were long-legged birds called Shypokes. Can not find them in bird books, but this one of yours must be it. Are they still around? (I was a girl way back...during the 40's.)

I wish more people would write blogs like this that are actually helpful to read. With all the fluff floating around on the internet, it is a great change of pace to read a blog like yours instead.
