Voices of Youth gave me an opportunity to explore one of my favorite subjects, theater. The theater is a place where I can go and immediately feel comfortable. "Theater people" are a sub-culture. Theater is everywhere, no matter what the geographical location. People are always drawn to the stage, although not everyone who is attracted to the theater is attracted for the same reasons.

In some people's eyes the theater is perpetually dying; there are never enough crowds, companies are always closing, artists are always starving. In my life though, the theater will never die. If it does, that would mean my sanctuary would be lost.

In the West, the theater has been around since the good old days when the range was everyone's home, with the traveling shows bringing culture to the raucous cowboys via stagecoach. And despite what anyone may tell you, theater is still very much alive in today's West, even Elko. The proof is found everywhere, from the casino's entertainers to the monetary support the community of Elko has shown by building stages and attending shows. For those who seek it, the theater is here.
