I am really quite happy with the way my project turned out. I learned so much, and was amazed at how much we take for granted about mining. I am proud to say I am part of a family where mining goes back four generations. Through this project I got to talk to my dad about his job and see where he works. What also makes me proud is how much energy he puts into his work to make other people safe while working in this sometimes-dangerous occupation. Hundreds of lives are lost each year and a lot of work is done behind the scenes just so we can live lives of leisure -- so we can drive our cars, eat our favorite foods, or just watch our favorite TV show.

When people think of mining, they don't think of all the men and women who work in labs and offices and other behind-the-scenes jobs. I have found respect for all types of miners, and I hope through my pictures and words I can show other people what I have learned in such a short amount of time. I plan to go on taking pictures and talking to people just to see what else I can learn.
