Postcard from Trailing of the Sheep
October 10, 2004
Leonard Coulson and Hal CannonKetchum, Idaho

Greetings from Trailing of the Sheep! Western Folklife Center staff Members Meg Glaser, Christina Barr, Sally Haueter, Hal Cannon, and Steve Green have come up to Ketchum to participate in The Trailing of the Sheep festival, held in Hailey/Ketchum, Idaho, every October. The Western Folklife Center has been working to document the occupational folklife of sheep ranching around the West, and our new traveling exhibit, "Trailing the Year: The Human Landscape of Sheep Ranching in the American West," has been a great success. We've installed it at the Ketchum/Sun Valley Ski and Heritage Museum, and they're reporting record attendance levels.

Hal's about to do a little busking - or as the mariachis call it, doing el tajon - in front of the local pizza parlor with Leonard Coulson, owner of Intermountain Guitar and Banjo in Salt Lake City, and we're all headed up the road to document local ranchers bringing their sheep into town along the main highway. We're heading back to Elko this evening.
