Tickets to National Cowboy Poetry Gathering on Sale to Members September 2 |
Tickets to the 25th National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, January 24 to 31, 2009, will go on sale to Western Folklife Center Members starting September 2 and to the general public October 2. The Silver Anniversary of the Gathering will be a grand reunion of cowboy poets and musicians from 25 years of Elko performances. Western Folklife Center Produces Snake River Outlaws CD |

The Western Folklife Center will launch its latest Deep West Records CD, a tribute to the 1950s cowboy band Snake River Outlaws, in a concert with western swing band Wylie & The Wild West, on Sunday, August 24, in Missoula, Montana. The concert is part of the River City Roots Festival, a free event in downtown Missoula, and will take place from 1:45 to 3:15 pm.
In addition, Montana Public Radio and the Western Folklife Center will also present a special half-hour documentary, A Snake River Outlaw Retrospective, on Monday, August 18 at 8:30 pm Mountain Time. Listen to the Retrospective.

Baxter Black to Perform in Elko September 19 |
 Photo: Charlie Ekburg Baxter Black, described by the New York Times as “…probably the nation’s most successful living poet,” is performing in Elko, Friday, September 19, 2008, at the Elko Convention Center. The show starts at 7:00 pm; tickets are $25 and $20. Western Folklife Center members receive $5.00 off the ticket price. Doors open at 6:00 pm. There will be a cash bar and Baxter Black merchandise sales in the lobby of the Convention Center. Baxter will stick around after the show to autograph books, CDs and DVDs. Baxter Black has been performing at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering since its very first year and is consistently one of its most popular and certainly funniest performers. Tickets to Baxter’s free Saturday afternoon shows during the Gathering are distributed by lottery so as many people as possible get the opportunity to share in the laughter. Now, Baxter is helping Elko commemorate the upcoming 25th anniversary of the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering with this special show.
