The Silver Anniversary of the Gathering will be a grand reunion of cowboy poets and musicians from 25 years of Elko performances. Elko's Cowboy Poets are Going to Reno

For the first time in its 25-year history and in celebration of its Silver Anniversary, the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering is taking two of its perennial favorite performers to Reno: Paul Zarzyski and Wylie & The Wild West will appear at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, for a special one-night-only performance. Read more.

Tickets are $10, $30 or $50 and can be purchased in advance at www.pioneercenter.com, by phone at 775-686-6600 or in person at the Pioneer Center Box Office, 255 E. Western Folklife Center Presents New Exhibition of Latino Art

Courtesy of the Nevada Museum of ArtSeptember 29 - November 16, 2008, The exhibition Voces Latinas: Works on Paper from 1921-Present will be in the Western Folklife Center's Wiegand Gallery. Voces Latinas touches on complex subjects and issues that continue to inspire dialogue and debate. Included in the many fine works of art are prints from Diego Rivera, Frank Romero and Carmen Lomas Garza. Click here for more information about the exhibition.

Friday, November 1, there will be an evening reception in honor of the Mexican holiday, Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, with a special tour of Voces Latinas by Ann Wolfe, curator of Exhibitions  and Collections at the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno. The evening will also feature a display of Day of the Dead offrendas, or altars, made by Elko community members: if you are interested in creating an altar, please contact the Western Folklife Center at 775-738-7508.
