Length: 5:39 ~ Listen

British Pianist Leslie Howard talks about the story behind the famous lyrics “you take the high road, and I’ll take the low road.” This familiar Scottish classic is usually interpreted light-heartedly, but Howard traces the song to its roots in Scotland’s bloody quest for independence from England. Musical renditions of this song are performed by Benny Goodman & his Orchestra (from the CD Pure Gold, RCA), tenor Bill Crofut (from the album All Through the Night, ProArte), and Leslie Howard himself.
