Live, every Saturday night from the Sunshine Bar on the corner of Woody and Alder in Missoula Montana: one of the the hottest cowboy bands of the era, the Snake River Outlaws! The recordings exist only because lead singer Oval Fochtman had purchased a new-fangled tape recorder and some blank tape back in the early 1950s, and each week recorded the group's live radio program on KXLL radio. The Snake River Outlaws: Harold Wilburn, Vern Wilburn, Jim Widner, Orval Fotchman, with Ruby Wilburn (Nightingale of Woody Street) These vintage live recordings of the Outlaws take us back to the grass roots of western and country music's golden age as digitally re-mastered recordings are included on the Western Folklife Center's Deep West Records newest CD in tribute to the musicians of the late 1940s and early 1950s when country music enjoyed a huge post-war boom in national popularity. Songs included, with arrangements by the Snake River Outlaws are: Sunshine Jamboree (both Intro and Outro) * Wreck of the old '97 (Traditional) * Orange Blossom Special (Ervin T. Rouse) * Careless Hands (Carl Sigman & Bob Hilliard) * The Only Rose (Hank Snow) * South (Traditional) * I Won't Go Huntin' With You Jake - But I'll Go Chasin' Wimmin (Stuart Hamlin) * Let Me Love You Just a Little (Jim Reeves) * My World of Yesterday (Harold Wilburn & Orval Fochtman) * Don't Let My Spurs Get Rusty - When I'm Gone (Carson Robison) * There's a Rainbow on the Rio Colorado (Gene Autry & Fred Rose) * Tumblin' Tumbleweed (Bob Nolan) * Golden Rocket (Hank Snow) * Devils Dream (Traditional) * Imitation Love (Harold Wilburn & Orval Fochtman) * I'd Rather Die Young - Than Grow Old Without You (Beasley Smith, Billy Vaughn & Randy Wood) * Streets of Laredo (Traditional) * Always Late - With Your Kisses (Lefty Frizzell & Blackie Crawford) * A Fool Such as I - Now and Then (Bill Trader) Executive Directors: Charlie Seemann and Wylie Gustafson ~ Producers: Scot Wilburn, Hal Cannon and Taki Telonidis. A Western Folklife Center - Deep West Records production. All proceeds from the sale of this CD support the mission of the Western Folklife Center. |
