Jackson Hole musicians, Vista 360, and the Western Folklife Center’s Founding Director Hal Cannon, formed a musical group called New Frontier that played several concerts in this country of ancient horsemen. |
The radio story tells of a day in a small village called Barskoon where long distance horse races were being run. Members of New Frontier were nervous that their concert wouldn’t draw a crowd, so they assembled a horse cart, printed flyers in Kyrgyzstan’s native language and played music throughout the village. The cowboy music could not have been more exotic to the locals, but the American-style marketing effort prevailed and the concert was standing room only.
