Attributed to Jack C. Williams and Carl Copeland in 1916, this song was turned into a Western classic starting with William Alonzo "Lon" Fishback in the 1920s. This performance by Buck Ramsey can also be found on "Buck Ramsey: Hittin' the Trail," a CD on the Smithsonian Folkways Recordings label. Listen to cowboy poet, J.B.
