It's time for the downtown Elko summer "Walks!" The Western Folklife Center participates in all Wine Walks, which begin at 4:00 pm at the Commercial Hotel. Cost $25 includes sampling glass. Adults only. Info.

Join us at 501 Railroad Street, Elko, for our "Recruitment Cocktail Hour and Social," from 6-8pm, and meet Western Folklife Center staff and other volunteers. Southwind is having a Haunted Hotel Halloween party! Drop by the Western Folklife Center's Pioneer Saloon and enjoy the lively music of Elko's own Southwind band from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The bar will be open and there's room to dance! Join us every Third Wednesday of the month.

October 7-11, 2015

Western Folklife Center representatives will once again travel to Ketchum and Hailey, Idaho, to participate in Trailing of the Sheep. We'll be video documenting the festival on Friday and collecting personal stories  in a sheep camp during Saturday's festival in Hailey. We hope to see you there, and be sure to keep an eye out for our exhibition, Trailing the Year.

Mark your calendars now for a fun Saturday at the Western Folklife Center. Matt Downs will host an afternoon cigar box guitar making workshop, followed by an evening concert with Stinging Nettle. Workshop cost is $60; the fee for children 12 and under is $55 and they must be accompanied by an adult. Downtown Elko "Wine Walks" continue! Join us at the Western Folklife Center during your "Walk" every Second Saturday throughout the summer. Cost is $25.00 and you must be 21 to participate. During the Wine Walk, help us celebrate the conclusion of the exhibition, The Life and Legacy of Ranching in Baja California Sur, with the Elko Mexican Folkloric Ballet in the Pioneer Saloon!

Visit the Western Folklife Center Wiegand Gallery and experience The Life and Legacy of Ranching in Baja California Sur, an educational and artful exhibition showcasing the unique landscape, history, living heritage and artistry of the ranching communities of Baja California Sur. Mexico. A companion exhibition of Carlos César Díaz Castro artworks is featured in our Fireplace Nook and Gift Shop.  On September 12, help us celebrate the conclusion of the exhibition with the Elko Mexican Folkloric Ballet, in the Pioneer Saloon!

Join us Elko Let's Dance and the Western Folklife Center in dancing the night away to Elko's own Road Hard band at our Harvest Moon Dance! As with our popular Let's Dance! series, we'll even have some lessons on popular steps thrown in. Cost will be $10 per person, $15.00 per couple, kids under 12 are free.

The Western Folklife Center Gift Shop hosts a book signing for Oklahoma's  "Official Chuck Wagon Cook," Kent Rollins, on July 18, 2015, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at 501 Railroad Street, Elko. There will be food sampling from the book, A Taste of Cowboy, with a wine pairing. Mark your calendars now and plan on a great time!

May 9 will be the first downtown Elko "Walk" sponsored by the Downtown Business Association! Pick up your map at the Elko Art Gallery, 407 Railroad Street beginning at 3:00 pm. The Western Folklife Center will feature clay artist Sam Brown and her pottery wheel, plus interactive artwork and more. It's an Art Walk for the entire family to enjoy (non-alcoholic beverages available).
