October 18 and 19, 2014

The Caleb Klauder Country Band is coming to the Western Folklife Center. Join us for an evening of dancing the evening of Saturday, October 18 as the band melds honky-tonk and early country into music harkening back to the old dance hall days. The band will also be teaching an old-time music workshop (for vocals and instruments) on Sunday, October 19th. Read more.

Drop by the Western Folklife Center's Pioneer Saloon and enjoy the music of Southwind from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The bar will be open and there's room to dance!

Exhibit opening reception for A Brushwork Roundup: Western Paintings and Drawings by Craig Sheppard. Join us for a gallery talk by curators Jim McCormick and Fred Ried, a poetry reading by Paul Zarzyski, appetizers and wine. 6pm-8pm.

The Western Folklife Center will once again participate in the annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival in Ketchum-Hailey, Idaho.

September 27, 2014

Sam Platts & The Kootenai Three are coming to the Western Folklife Center for one night only: join us at 8:00 pm (Pioneer Saloon doors open at 7:30pm) for a honky-tonkin' evening of roots country music and western dancing. Admission: $15/person, $15/couple. Read more.

The historic Pioneer Saloon will be open for business, 6:00pm - 8:00pm. Stop by for a refreshing beverage and enjoy listening (and dancing) to toe-tapping music by Southwind.

Opening day of the 31st National Cowboy Poetry Gathering ticket sales for members of the Western Folklife Center. General sales won't begin for another month: become a member and purchase tickets early, before some shows sell out!

 "Second Saturdays" - 2014 (except June)

Visit the Western Folklife Center Gift Shop during the summer Second Saturdays in downtown Elko! All "Walks" begin at 4:00 pm and run until 7:00 pm (starting location to be announced). June 7 is the 3rd annual Margarita Walk; July 12, August 9, September 13 are Wine Walks. The Western Folklife Center will not be participating in the October 11 Beer Walk. Brought to you by the Elko Downtown Business Association.

Special Sundays in December!

The Western Folklife Center Gift Shop at 501 Railroad Street, Elko, will be open December 1, 8, 15 and 22 for your Christmas shopping needs. We will be closed December 25 and 26, as well as December 30 and 31, 2013 and January 1, 2014.

Join us in downtown Elko for the annual Snowflake Festival, Parade of Lights and holiday fireworks display. The Western Folklife Center Gift Shop will be open throughout the day's festivitites.

Beginning September 9, the Western Folklife Center presents Words + Images: Broadsides from the Black Rock Press, an exhibition from the Nevada Touring Initiative–Traveling Exhibition Program, funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Nevada Humanities, the Nevada State Legislature, and an anonymous donor. Spend a fun day at the Western Folklife Center, starting with a hands-on printmaking workshop by Tuscarora artist Sidne Teske scheduled for 9:30am-2:30pm, then finish the day from 3:30-5:50pm with an Italian-themed reception honoring our Words + Images:Broadsides from the Black Rock Press exhibition and Italian Buckaroos: New World exhibition. Black Friday and Shop Local Saturday in downtown Elko! In-store specials both days at the Western Folklife Center Gift Shop, 501 Railroad Street. Starting in December, the Gift Shop will be open most Sundays - December 1, 8, 15 and 22 - for your Christmas shopping needs.
